USING ‘the chemical database’ and the @sea-@shore platform to comply with UK legislation, COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health)

Every now and then, we are asked if using the @SEA-@SHORE platform means complying with UK legislation, COSHH. The following guides you to understand how to fulfil the COSHH requirements.

SEA HEALTH & WELFARE chemical database

When carrying out a chemical risk assessment in the @SEA-@SHORE platform, you will make use of both the chemical database and the risk asessment module.
In the chemicals database, hazards of a chemical product is assessed, and appropriate control measures is communicated through a workplace instruction and a PPE notice.
In principle, four players are involved in the chemical risk assessment process:

  • The user on board the ship

  • Administrator of the chemicals on shipowner level

  • SEA HEALTH AND WELFARE

  • DHI A/S (third party regulatory experts)

By using both the chemicals database module and the risk assessment module provided in the @SEA-@SHORE platform, COSHH compliance is ensured through the product specific workplace instructions, the job specific hazard identification and risk management measures.

For users not working with the risk assessment module, the workplace instruction and substitution advice obtained in the chemicals database module can be used to ensure COSHH compliance in combination with the users own risk assessment.
